ABOUT THE CLIENT
The Silverton Wind Farm is a 200 Megawatt wind farm located in the Barrier Ranges of North Western NSW.

With 200 MW generation capacity, the Silverton Wind Farm is located on the Mundi Mundi and Mount Robe Ranges, approximately five kilometres north of Silverton. The project has 58 turbines capable of producing up to 200 MW, making it one of the biggest wind farms operating in Australia.

The Silverton Wind Farm is a 200 Megawatt wind farm located in the Barrier Ranges of North Western NSW.

It is expected to generate approximately 780,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean, renewable electricity each year and is one of the largest wind farms in Australia. This energy will power approximately 98,000 average Australian homes.

SBL Solutions installed 58 GE wind turbine generators

SBL Solutions held the Mechanical and Electrical Installation scope of works on this construction project which saw the installation of 58 GE wind Turbine Generators.

COMMUNITY

PROJECT INJECTS FUNDS INTO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

During construction of Silverton Wind Farm there was a peak workforce of approximately 150 jobs with a high context of local and regional involvement. The local community has also benefited from the 10 local full time jobs required for the maintenance and operation of the Silverton Wind Farm.

The project also injects funds into the local community through payments to involved landholders, use of local goods and services and community fund contributions.

LOCATION
Silverton Wind Farm is located in the Barrier Ranges of NSW.

Silverton Wind Farm is located in the Barrier Ranges of NSW. Its south-western boundary is approximately 5 kilometres north of Silverton and approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Broken Hill.

The wind turbines are located over the Mundi Mundi Range in the southern portion of the site and Mount Robe Range in the northern portion of the site.

Silverton Wind Farm has provided many benefits to the local community.

COMMUNITY

The project provided the following benefits to the local community:

  • Establishment of a community fund to assist in funding projects that provide benefits to the Silverton community.
  • Improvement in local infrastructure in the Silverton region.
  • Protection and improved management of sensitive local biodiversity including the tawny rock dragon and a previously unrecorded spinifex ecological community.
  • Improved security of electricity supply through diversification.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL

The project generates enough renewable energy to power up to 98,000 homes.

INVESTMENT

The Silverton Wind Farm Local Community Fund invests funds back into the community.

The Silverton Wind Farm Local Community Fund invests funds back into the community by way of financial support for community based initiatives, projects and events that supports Silverton residents.
